Pluscarden Abbey Retreat

Friday 17 – Sunday 19 May 2019

In 2019 the Confraternity will make its first residential retreat which will take place at Pluscarden Abbey near Elgin, Moray. It will be our first event to take place in the Diocese of Aberdeen. The chaplain and preacher of the retreat will be Fr Ross Crichton, parish priest of St Michael’s, Eriskay, in the Diocese of Argyll & the Isles.

Pluscarden is a Benedictine monastery first founded as a Valliscaulian house in 1230. It is wonderful oasis of peace and a popular choice with visitors from around Scotland and further afield.  As part of the retreat we will also have a Sung Mass in the beautiful ruins of Elgin Cathedral and the opportunity for Eucharistic Adoration in the chapel of Greyfriars Convent, which is now home to the Nashville Dominican Sisters.  Pluscarden’s abbey church and Greyfriars’ chapel are two of only four pre-Reformation Catholic churches in Scotland which are still in use for worship in the present day so this will be a rare and wonderful opportunity to worship in them both.

The cost of the retreat will be £60 (with a deposit of £20 payable to secure each place) which will include two night’s full board accommodation in the abbey guesthouses – St Benedict’s (for men) and St Scholastica’s (for women) both afford ten spaces for retreatants in simple but comfortable single rooms.
